Our 'Projeto Ciranda' was created to build a supportive community for all Brazilians and people with Portuguese language background living on the Sunshine Coast. The name “Ciranda” comes from a popular Brazilian child's song called “Ciranda, cirandinha”, which is sung and danced in a circle with people holding hands. We are a group of Brazilian mothers that decided to hold hands as volunteers and give life to this project in 2021.

Our mission starts with creating a welcoming environment where children and their families feel comfortable and excited to be in touch with the Brazilian culture, learning and exercising the Portuguese language in a fun and rich manner. With that in mind, we aim to create a bond in our community, where together we are stronger sharing our culture and presenting young generations with songs, stories and play activities from Brazil. Nourishing our roots in that sense we work towards developing our children’s self-esteem as multicultural individuals, creating positive memories and experiences in a family-oriented environment. That way we believe the participants will not only be exposed to this rich culture and language, but they will feel safe and at ease to practice and experiment with communication using Portuguese as one of their languages.
Our values are based on:
-
Respect to Culture, Diversity, and Ancestry;
-
Sense of Belonging;
-
Community;
-
Gender and Cultural Equity;
We envision a future where diversity is contemplated and children are proud of their background culture. A future where respect and empathy are an eminent part of our society and multi-cultural communities are cherished.
